The Spanish Business Confederation of Social Economy (CEPES) claims its presence in the Commission for Social and Economic Reconstruction of the Congress of Deputies, since it is a contradiction that this Commission does not contemplate in its debates the presence and defense of the interests of Social Economy companies and what they can mean for the economic reconstruction of Spain (cooperatives, labor companies, mutual societies, fishermen's guilds, special employment centers, insertion companies and disability associations).

• The Commission for Social and Economic Reconstruction of the Congress of Deputies does not contemplate in its debates the presence and defense of the interests of Social Economy companies and what they may mean for the economic reconstruction of Spain (cooperatives, labor companies, mutual societies, fishermen's guilds, special employment centers, insertion companies and disability associations).

• The President of CEPES, Juan Antonio Pedreño, underlines “that just a few days ago 14 European Governments, European institutions and several key ministries of the Government of Spain, have been strongly signified by the Social Economy in the reconstruction policies of Europe and each "One of their countries, and yet, in the Commission constituted in the Congress of Deputies to design the future economic partner of Spain, oblivion occurs."

• The President of CEPES points out that “despite this contradiction, the companies and entities of the Social Economy will continue to fight against the coronavirus and try to advance in an economic and social reconstruction in which we can and must contribute so much, although we expect a rectification to transfer our proposals to the Commission.

Madrid, May 29, 2020.- The Spanish Business Confederation of the Social Economy (CEPES) claims its presence in the Commission for Social and Economic Reconstruction of the Congress of Deputies.

The president of CEPES, Juan Antonio Pedreño , argues that "it is a contradiction that the Commission for Reconstruction does not contemplate in its debates the presence and defense of the interests of the companies of the Social Economy and what they can mean for economic reconstruction from Spain (cooperatives, labor companies, mutual societies, fishermen's guilds, special employment centers, insertion companies and disability associations).

Pedreño stresses that this forgetfulness occurs "at a time when European governments, European institutions and several key ministries of the Government of Spain, have been strongly signified by the Social Economy in the reconstruction policies of Europe and each of its countries " Pedreño adds that "our socio-economic impact is being ignored in a debate in which we have so much to contribute."

In addition, Pedreño explains that "the Social Economy is a key sector due to its greater resilience to the crisis and because it shows that it is possible to combine economic and social profitability, with companies committed to people and territory, that do not relocate and that create jobs stable and of quality ”.

CEPES remembers that in all the recent work meetings with the third vice-president of the Government and minister of Economy and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño ; the fourth vice-president of the Government of Spain and minister of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera ; the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto ; and the Minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz , has confirmed the important role that this business model can contribute to the future economic partner of Spain and therefore in these debates on reconstruction.

Europe bets on the Social Economy

While the Commission for Social and Economic Reconstruction surprises and does not include the Social Economy in Spain, other European Governments and European institutions do make a strong commitment to this business model, as was confirmed last week at the first meeting of the presidency of the Government of Spain of the Monitoring Committeeconvicted of the Luxembourg Declaration.

In addition, this commitment to the Social Economy in reconstruction is reinforced in several documents, such as the European Commission document published on May 20 within the European Semester, which states that "structural change should be encouraged through measures to promote innovative forms of work and entrepreneurship, including the Social Economy ”.

Furthermore, the Reconstruction Plan for Europe , approved last Thursday by the European Commission, recognizes that "a solid Social Economy can offer unique opportunities that enable the most vulnerable to return to the labor market."

Rectification

The President of CEPES pointed out that “despite this forgetfulness of the Reconstruction Commission, the companies and entities of the Social Economy will continue fighting against the coronavirus and trying to advance in an economic and social reconstruction in which we can and must contribute so much, although we await a rectification to transfer it to the Commission expressly created for it ”.
