Madrid, February 26, 2019. - CEPES will be part of the Council for sustainable development. The Act has been chaired in La Moncloa, by the President of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, at an event attended by the Deputy Secretary of the United Nations, Amina J. Mohammed, and the President of CEPES, Juan Antonio Pedreño, among others.

Last Saturday, the Government made public the regulation that regulates this Council, which will be in charge of advising on the preparation and implementation of plans and strategies for compliance with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The 2030 Agenda, adopted by the United Nations in September 2015, establishes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that focus on ending inequalities and ensuring prosperity for all people before the end of the next decade. The Government of Spain has taken several initiatives to fulfill its commitments to the SDGs together with the EU and the rest of the international community, establishing its strategy in the Action Plan for the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda, in which the Economy Social has a central role to have incorporated the Spanish Social Economy Strategy 2017-2020 as one of its "lever" policies.

Pedreño has appreciated that CEPES has two members in this Council together with the rest of social agents, socioeconomic actors and civil society organizations. He pointed out that "this appointment of the government once again places the Social Economy at the center of the 2030 Agenda, with which these companies are absolutely committed because they provide a business model in which people take precedence over capital and in which, Without losing sight of the business dimension, democratic governance prevails, the defense of solidarity and responsibility with the environment to generate a positive impact ".

For Pedreño, "the SDGs constitute an ideal framework in which Social Economy companies can unleash their full potential to generate economic growth compatible with the health of the planet that, at the same time, ensures a more equitable distribution of wealth and that offer better life opportunities to all people.
