(Valencia, October 1, 2015) .- The Social Economy companies of Valencia have in their squads with a rate two to three times higher for disabled than other traditional business formulas.

This is one of the main conclusions of the study 'The social economy as an engine of employment for people with disabilities', Presented today at the Hall of Territorial Delegation of ONCE and ONCE Foundation prepared by co-financing from the European Social Fund and the collaboration of the Spanish Business Confederation of Social Economy (CEPES).

The event was attended by the territorial delegate of ONCE in Valencia, Jose Manuel Pichel; Enter FSC director in Valencia, Vicente Mico; President of the Confederation of Cooperatives of Valencia and adviser Head of CSR CEPES, Emili Villaescusa; Abay and consultancy Analysts, Nuria Guilló.

One of the main findings is that, at the state level, the Social Economy companies incorporate "a much higher percentage" of people with disabilities in their workforce (6.2% of workers) compared with the rest of trading companies (1.7%).

Also, the size of the companies is a relevant variable in hiring people with disabilities. In Spain, the percentage of workers with disabilities is higher in large companies on the medium (9.3% and 2.2% respectively). In this aspect, Valencia, along with Catalonia, Andalusia and Madrid clump together 63% of disabled workers in medium and large social economy companies.

Primacy of persons

Emili Villaescusa said that "the social economy has proven a key to generating employment and economic and social wealth tool, but especially noted for its features of solidarity and by putting people above any consideration."

"Precisely for these reasons," added Villaescusa, "companies and entities of the Social Economy have firmly backed the inclusion of people with disabilities and have become the main stage of normalization and visibility of this group".

José Manuel Pichel recalled that in the ONCE and its group companies 67,000 people, including 27,000 sellers and 39,000 more in the group of companies (which includes laundries, hotels and other services) work, which grew in 2014 ONCE " just over 3%, "while in 2015" We are growing at around 10%. With it,Pichel stated, We are showing that the social and the business is profitable, dare we even say it is very profitable.

Therefore, the territorial delegate of ONCE has encouraged companies and institutions to consolidate this "generation of quality employment" as he underlined, "it involves activating a lever of job creation that requires the commitment of all ".

Meanwhile, Vicente Mico has asked "to share the potential that the Social Economy can play for people with disabilities" and pointed out that one can not speak "integration if there is no employment."

In addition, the director of FSC Inserts in Valencia has defended the need for these studies, as presented today, because "to propose solutions and establish lines of action, it is essential to have accurate information and data."

Mico also took the opportunity to recall the recent creation of the Observatory on Disability and Labour Market in Spain (ODISMET) and noted that the study 'The social economy as an engine of employment for people with disabilities' yields conclusions that "demonstrate that even needs to be done and that we need thework of all parties, especially when the work by and for people is part of the social DNA. "

Nuria Guilló was responsible for shelling the most relevant data for thisstudy. Thus, he explained that one of the main conclusions is that "companies and entities of the Social Economy can be an opportune stage of normalization and visibility of the social and labor integration of people with disabilities, serving as an engine for market access regular job. "

Guilló highlighted as a positive aspect that "once the company has had a satisfactory experience with hiring a disabled person breaks that barrier", so the previous presence of a disabled worker is seen by the companies such as the "principal enabler". The study reveals that 99% of companies have already hired a disabled worker would recommend hiring another company that still has not done so, as they perform their work as "other workers".

Therefore, the consultant has recommended action in small and medium enterprises, "where there is still a way to go" and focusing actions in companies that still have no person with disabilities "to achieve a first successful experience of integration."

Finally, Guilló noted the three main strategies to be developed by the specialized agencies to improve the process of employment of people with disabilities. According to the study, these three lines are "promote opportunities for encounter" between the field of disability and the Social Economy, make aAnd conduct "communication and dissemination of success stories and progress" in this regard, "specializing in the Social Economy and continued assistance in time."
