Spanish Social Economy Companies, global leaders and European in seven industrial sectors

On the WEB of CEPES, is available Relevant Business Ranking 2012. Includes information on 827 Social Economy Enterprises of different legal forms, and eight business groups of Social Economy. Data are provided by CEPES Partners.
  • Four companies encompassed by CEPES are world leaders in four sectors, three European level, more than a dozen lead the state and many are market leaders in their regional governments.

 

  • The Social Economy enterprises CEPES framed Spanish invoiced in 2012, 145,299 million euros, operating in all economic sectors and come in all sizes, from micro to firms and business groups globally recognized.

 

 

(Madrid, August 27, 2013). - Companies belonging to the Spanish Social Economy lead four industry sectors worldwide, three in Europe and more than a dozen in the domestic market, as ranked 'Social Economy' prepared by the Spanish Business Confederation of Social Economy (CEPES).

This ranking (available on the website of CEPES www.cepes.es/ Ranking) is to visualize the business model (consisting of cooperatives, labor companies, mutual integration companies, special employment centers and fishermen's associations) and provide information on the size, sector, business use of this tissue present in all economic sectors.

This ranking of 'social economy' which is updated annually, provides information on employment and turnover of 827 Social Economy companies. It also provides results of eight large business groups Social Economics 18,500 million euros turnover and employed 138.376 people.

These groups are Mondragón (with firms such as Eroski, Orona, Caja Laboral), Group ASCES (Consum, Anecoop) Espriu Foundation (Asisa and Scias), Grup Clade (The Fageda, Suara) Unide, Gredos San Diego Cooperative Group, Atlantis or Grupo Caja Rural Cooperative Cajamarca.

"A feature of the Social Economy enterprises CEPES framed Spanish, with a turnover of 145.299 million euros in 2012, is operating in all economic sectors are of all sizes, from micro, SMEs to large corporations globally recognized, although not always associated with the business model they belong Social Economy ", has explained CEPES president, Juan Antonio Pedreño.

The ranking confirms the presence of significant marks of Social Economy Companies in different sectors. Examples are: food industry (Coren, Asturian Central Lechera, Hojiblanca, Kaiku...) Sector, housing cooperatives (Larcovi Sal), energy, (Enercoop) education (Colleges Gredos San Diego), credit unions (Caja Mar Caja Rural Caja), health (Asisa), machinery (Copreci Orkli Danobat Group), wholesale marketing, distribution (Eroski, Consum) and care for people, dependence (Suara)

Within the Social Economy, apart from cooperatives and labor, other legal forms that also have a great economic and social importance, such as Special Employment Centres, mutual (with brands like Lagun Aro, General Mutual Law), integration enterprises (Engrunes, Formació i Treball) and Fishermen's Guilds.

 

Ranking

In a first stage of analysis of the ranking 'Economy Social'se have identified four leading companies worldwide, three European and more than a dozen in the domestic market.

 

Among the Social Economy enterprises world's leading Spanish and European listed:

  • Hojiblanca. This union of cooperatives is the largest producer of olive oil and table olives in the world.
  • Copreci. Is a world leader in the manufacture of gas control components for appliances.
  • Anecoop. This cooperative group is a leader in three levels: globally, in the marketing of citrus; European watermelons and persimmons, and national levels in fruits and vegetables.
  • Orkli. World leader in thermoelectric safety systems with magnetic groups and thermocouples.
  • Orona. It is the European leader in complete lift capacity. One in ten new lifts in Europe has made this cooperative Mondragon Group.
  • Technosite. Leading company in Europe in universal accessibility solutions in Information Technology and Communication.

 

Other Social Economy enterprises leaders in Spain are:

  • Danobat Group. Cooperative machines and tools manufacturer.
  • Comsum. Spanish is the cooperative partners with more consumers, as well as a leader in CSR and is the second company to bill more Valencia.
  • Enercoop. This is the most important energy cooperative nationwide.
  • The Fageda. Special Employment Centre yogurt producing farm in La Garrotxa (Girona).
  • Gredos San Diego. It is the largest union in Spain teaching students and working partners and leading Madrid.
  • Larcovi. Cooperative housing with VPO 23,800 delivered since 1980.
  • Emmaus. Enterprise integration of groups at risk of exclusion, a pioneer in the recovery for reuse furniture, appliances, and other household textiles.
  • Montepío Loreto.It is a mutual welfare established in 1970 by aviation workers.
  • Medical Mutual. Entity welfare of doctors, who was born in 1920.
  • Fishermen's Associations: Cedeira (leader in responsible fisheries), Rosas (technological innovation), Santa Pola (sales, turnover, number of vessels and affiliates) and Tarifa (Pioneered artisanal fisheries management).

CEPES President has stated that "these companies demonstrate the value of the social economy, which accounts for 10% of Spanish GDP and is a way to take that in equilibrium with the criteria of competitiveness and competitiveness, demonstrates that economic rationality and social progress are compatible criteria ".
